Search engines dig deep--maybe too deep
----------------------------------------
Search engine Web crawlers are always turning up information that is not
meant for the public eye.
Now Google=92s newly launched "file type tool search" service, which lets
users search among a variety of files types including Adobe PostScript,
Lotus 1-2-3 and WordPro, MacWrite, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word,
Works and Write, and the Rich Text Format, could be aggravating the
problem.
Web site owners are trying harder to beef up security measures to
prevent exposing credit card or other financial information unwittingly.
Another concern is that the various types of files available are more
likely to carry dangerous viruses than Web pages are. Google recants any
responsibility for tool and said that Web site operators could adopt the
use of simple means like the robots.txt "keep out" sign.
