UNITED KINGDOM - BBC CHARITY RAISES HALF A MILLION POUNDS
OVER ITV
The BBC=92s recent charity drive, Children in Need, proved to be much more
successful at raising money through interactive television (iTV) donations
than receiving funds over the internet. iTV viewers donated almost
GBP500,000 (E803,000), while web users sent in more than GBP310,000
(E498,000). The results may prompt the BBC to focus more on iTV
applications for future programmes. Digital cable and digital satellite
users were able to make payments directly through their televisions, but
ITV Digital viewers had to use the telephone.
